EngineerPosition summary We’re hiring a detail-oriented Building
Automation Project Engineer to convert sales estimates, contract
drawings, and specifications into complete submittal packages and
constructible designs. You’ll develop control sequences,
single-line diagrams, instrument and I/O schedules, bills of
material, and valve/damper selections according to company
standards and industry best practices. You’ll support project
intake and turnover with Sales and coordinate design progress and
handoffs with Project Management — delivering accurate as-built
documentation at closeout and staying current on controls
technology and trends. Key responsibilities Produce full submittal
packages from sales estimates, contract drawings and
specifications, including control narratives, diagrams, and device
selections. Ensure designs comply with contract requirements,
project specs, applicable codes, and company standards. Participate
in project intake/turnover meetings with Sales to verify scope and
clarifications. Lead or facilitate design progress meetings and
turnovers with Project Management, commissioning, procurement, and
field teams. Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and controls
engineers/contractors to integrate BAS into the overall building
systems. Generate clear deliverables for procurement, installation,
commissioning, and as-built documentation. Support commissioning
activities by providing sequences, point lists, and functional test
procedures. Maintain and update standard templates, sequences
library, and selection guidelines. Keep current on BAS
hardware/software trends and cybersecurity best practices. Provide
technical support to sales, project managers, service, and field
teams. Identify scope gaps, risks, and potential change-order
opportunities. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for
the engineering and submittal workflows. Qualifications (bold
required): Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering,
Controls Engineering, or equivalent technical degree, or 4 years
relevant BAS experience. 3–7 years experience developing building
automation/control submittals and shop drawings. Experience with
sequences of operation, point lists/I/O, and BOM creation.
Knowledge of HVAC equipment controls and field devices (VAV, AHU,
chiller, etc.). Proficiency with Vision and AutoCAD to produce or
review control drawings. Experience with BAS platforms/protocols
(Tridium Niagara, BACnet, Modbus, etc.). Strong written and verbal
communication skills. Detail-oriented, organized, and able to
manage multiple projects concurrently. Proficient with Microsoft
Office; familiarity with project management tools preferred.
Qualifications — preferred NICET or other HVAC/control
certifications; commissioning credentials a plus. Manufacturer
product training or certification (Tridium, Honeywell, etc.).
Knowledge of HVAC piping and hydronic calculations for valve
sizing. Understanding of BAS networking and cybersecurity best
practices. Experience in a contractor or systems integrator
environment. Skills and competencies Technical: Control logic
development, wiring schematics, device selection, valve/damper
sizing, BOM management. Interpersonal: Collaborative, able to lead
cross-functional meetings. Project: Time management,
prioritization, documenting design decisions. Analytical:
Troubleshoot sequence issues and reconcile field conditions.
Continuous learning: Keeps up with BAS hardware/software and
standards. Typical outcomes / success metrics Submittal packages
completed on schedule and allotted time with minimal internal RFIs.
Reduced design-related change orders by identifying scope gaps
early. Timely turnover packages delivered to PMs and commissioning
teams. Positive feedback from sales, PMs, and field teams. Working
conditions & travel Office-based with collaboration across teams;
some site visits required. Occasional travel for commissioning or
training (5–10%). Normal business hours; occasional extended hours
