Job Description:
Director of the Mathematical Statistics Research Center at the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
BLS publishes gold-standard data on labor market activity, working
conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to
support public and private decision making. These data are used by
the U.S. Congress and state legislators to make policy decisions,
by businesses to decide on new site locations and wages, and by
millions of citizens for critical career and financial
decisions.
The Office of Survey Methods Research within BLS conducts research
to develop behavioral and statistical methods to improve BLS
surveys. Our work culture emphasizes the importance of our mission
to publish high-quality statistics for the American public while
maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Role and Responsibilities
Research Focus and Expertise
Our researchers specialize in survey design and data analysis,
including nonparametric estimation, machine learning, and Bayesian
hierarchical modeling. Our methods aim to provide unbiased
population inferences and accurate uncertainty quantification,
considering dependencies from survey design, time, and spatial
factors. We are also exploring privacy-preserving data
dissemination techniques.
